Daqo’s Q2 revenue recovered to $62.7 million and EBITDA loss narrowed to $29.3 million, but gross margin remained deeply negative at -132% as ASP fell to $4.04/kg versus $5.95/kg total production cost. The $1.92 billion debt-free liquidity position provides survival value, while the bull case depends on regulatory-led capacity exits; however, management acknowledged 500,000–600,000 tons of industry inventory, weak demand and only limited transactions near RMB40/kg, making a rapid earnings recovery unlikely.

Near term
Q3 production guidance is 40,000–45,000 metric tons, but higher production does not help unless realized prices rise above the company’s $4.57/kg cash cost and inventory impairment declines.
The August anti-involution initiative and energy-consumption rules are the main near-term catalysts, but enforcement and the timing of meaningful price transactions remain unproven.
Operating cash burn reached $276 million in H1 2026, a material deterioration from $105 million in H1 2025 despite the company’s large liquidity cushion.
Longer term
The January 2027 6.3 kgce/kg energy-consumption standard could force inefficient capacity out of the market; management estimates effective industry capacity is already below 2 million tons versus roughly 3 million tons built.
Daqo’s low-cost, high-quality N-type position should allow it to retain share through a downturn, but management’s expectation of only modest polysilicon volume-demand growth limits the value of that advantage.
AIDC power infrastructure is a potentially meaningful diversification opportunity, targeting 800V DC equipment, but products are still in R&D, with prototypes expected by year-end and sales targeted for 2027; meaningful growth is framed for 2028–2030 rather than near-term earnings.
Semiconductor-grade polysilicon could diversify the business, but the customer qualification cycle is taking longer than anticipated and commercial traction remains unproven.
Red flags
Management did not provide a shipment or price recovery forecast and effectively conceded that inventory liquidation and demand weakness could prolong the recovery.
Analyst questioning highlighted that prior self-regulation failed to sustain discipline; management’s answer relied on government enforcement and voluntary compliance without a concrete execution mechanism.
Current quoted prices near RMB40/kg remain below the industry cost model of approximately RMB50/kg, and management acknowledged transaction volumes are still very low.
The AIDC strategy involves a committed RMB2 billion first phase, but there is no disclosed backlog, customer revenue, payback period or normalized profitability; the platform also relies heavily on the affiliated Daqo Group’s expertise and customer relationships.
Gross loss was still $82.7 million and inventory impairment was $55.7 million, showing that the business remains economically underwater even after sequential improvement.
