Excellent cash generation is offset by execution risk and insufficiently quantified growth returns.
Latest call · FY 2026Hold: FY26 revenue rose 9% to US$17 billion, underlying EBITDA rose 9% to US$8.6 billion, and free cash flow rose 25% to US$3.2 billion, supported by US$0.9 billion of net debt and 65% dividend payout. The balance sheet and low-cost iron ore franchise are compelling, but Iron Bridge remains heavily fixed-cost and loss-making during ramp-up, while FY27 capex rises and the Green Grid, green metals and data-centre upside remains largely uncontracted.

- Cmrg Negotiations
Near term
CMRG negotiations remain unresolved; management says inventory is normal but cannot rule out future shipment or pricing disruption.
FY27 sustaining and hub development capex is guided at US$2.3 billion to US$2.7 billion, including a peak period for grey-fleet replacement and port maintenance.
Iron Bridge is about 70% fixed cost and management intends to keep ramping it despite the history of cash losses.
Longer term
The core iron ore business retains a strong cost position, with 201.3 million tonnes shipped and US$18.74/t hematite C1 cost in FY26.
The Green Grid and electrification program could lower operating costs and create third-party power revenue, but customer offtake and returns are not yet quantified.
Blacksmith is planned for production by the end of the decade and is intended to support the product strategy, but its contribution remains several years away.
Red flags
Management did not quantify Green Grid offtake, customer signings, project economics or expected ROCE despite repeated analyst questions.
Iron Bridge has a 70% fixed-cost structure during ramp-up, leaving limited downside protection if volumes or performance disappoint.
The call disclosed 69 alleged breaches, including 29 related to discrimination and harassment, and 11 dismissals; an executive investigation remains ongoing while the executive has not been stood down.
