Strong execution, but near-term growth quality and external risks do not justify a clean buy.

Latest call · Q1 2027

Hold: Q1 FY27 total income rose 19% to INR2,134 million, EBITDA rose 21% to INR1,141 million at a 53.5% margin, and PAT rose 30% to INR247 million.

The pooling moat and 20% growth target are attractive, but Movement Hire grew only 8%, container costs are constraining deployment, GCC is delayed by conflict, and the call provides no valuation support.

Near term

Seasonally stronger Q2-Q4, festive demand, 5%-6% contractual price increases and higher Movement Hire could support the stated 20% growth target.

Container and automotive customers are requesting more capacity, but raw-material inflation has made new crates uneconomic and management is deliberately buying fewer assets.

GCC launch timing remains uncertain because of geopolitical conflict; India growth is expected to compensate for the delay.

Longer term

The 10,500-touchpoint network, approximately 9 million pooled pallets and 90% stated market share are meaningful barriers if utilization and retrieval discipline persist.

The core operating opportunity depends on Movement Hire increasing from roughly 0.4x toward global levels; this is a large upside lever but India’s fragmented trucking system and customer adoption remain bottlenecks.

CHEP integration has increased automotive exposure from roughly 13.5%-14% to 20%, with management targeting 22%-25%, while the acquired pallet base may have much longer economic lives than accounting depreciation suggests.

Red flags

Movement Hire rose only 8% year-on-year to 766,000 pallet movements despite 21% overall revenue growth, with textile weakness cited as the main reason.

Management’s 20% growth and 47%-56% EBITDA margin framework is directional rather than a detailed forecast, and the claim that EBITDA growth will exceed revenue is explicitly mix-dependent.

DSO remains high at 119 days despite improving from 131 days; the promised 10-15 day quarterly reduction is not yet demonstrated.

Related-party transactions were defended as arm’s length, but the call did not quantify the transactions or address the issue in enough detail to remove governance uncertainty.

Raw-material inflation, INR weakness, and geopolitical disruption are already reducing asset deployment; prospective GCC expansion and acquisitions add execution and capital-allocation risk.
