Execution visibility is solid, but deleveraging and new-order conversion remain unproven.

Latest call · Q1 2027

Hold: Q1 revenue rose 4% to Rs.

1,281 crores, while PAT grew 24.5% to Rs. 93.5 crores, helped by a roughly Rs. 10 crore reduction in finance costs rather than stronger underlying margins. The Rs. 14,636 crore order book and 10% FY27 revenue target support visibility, but delivery depends on about Rs. 8,000 crores of new wins, while 85%-90% promoter pledge, 137 net working-capital days and likely additional borrowing keep the risk-reward from being a clean buy.

Near term

Conversion of the roughly Rs. 9,000 crores of bids under evaluation, particularly the Arunachal and northeast packages, is the key catalyst for the stated FY27 growth target.

Completion of Subansiri's remaining units and continued Kwar, Parnai and Sleemanabad execution should determine whether second-half growth materializes.

Management targets Rs. 150-200 crores of non-core asset and arbitration monetization; realized proceeds and their use for debt reduction matter more than the stated target.

Longer term

The order book is concentrated in hydropower at 62%, leaving growth and execution exposed to long project cycles, approvals and project-specific delivery risk.

Management expects EBITDA margins to remain around 13%-14% and explicitly does not see a clear path to 15%, indicating limited operating leverage despite scale.

A reduction in promoter pledge from roughly 85%-90% by 15%-20% and sustained deleveraging are important balance-sheet milestones before any shareholder-return case becomes credible.

Red flags

Revenue growth requires new orders: management is targeting Rs. 8,000 crores of new awards this year despite the existing order book being executable over three years.

Consolidated debt increased by about Rs. 100 crores in the quarter to Rs. 1,293 crores, with Rs. 969 crores of working-capital debt and possible additional borrowing of Rs. 100-200 crores.

Rs. 200-250 crores of retention is locked on the balance sheet until project completion or eligible bank-guarantee release, while PSU arbitration recoveries remain subject to prolonged litigation.

The improvement in Q1 margin to 14.02% was mostly project mix, and management cannot quantify savings from IoT and equipment initiatives.
