Latest call · Q2 2026

speculative hold, not a buy on fundamentals yet.

NextNav ended Q2 with roughly $298 million of liquidity and no convertible debt after issuing 15.2 million shares, but revenue was only $1.15 million, operating cash use was $28.0 million, and operating expenses rose to $21.4 million. The bull case is FCC approval of the 900 MHz proposal and validation from SpaceX, Safran and technical testing; the central tension is that regulatory progress remains uncommitted and commercial monetization is still minimal.

Near term

FCC interagency/OIRA review and any timetable for a formal NPRM are the main near-term stock catalysts; management provided no date and acknowledged timing remains uncertain.

SpaceX’s 900 MHz filing may improve the regulatory narrative, but management could not establish whether SpaceX intends to lease spectrum, partner, or pursue another arrangement.

Further 3D PNT positioning and timing test results, plus progress with freight railroads and other incumbent users, could affect perceived technical and coexistence risk.

The capital structure is cleaner after $169.5 million of warrant proceeds and $190 million of debt conversion, but the resulting 167 million shares increase the equity base substantially.

Longer term

The investment case depends primarily on FCC authorization and successful deployment of a 900 MHz terrestrial PNT/mobile-broadband network, not current revenue.

The demonstrated approximately 20-nanosecond timing accuracy and Safran interoperability work strengthen the technical proposition for defense, aviation, utilities, AI data centers and critical infrastructure, but no material revenue contribution was quantified.

The device-based Z-axis model could broaden distribution through 911 vertical-location services, while counter-UAS and drone initiatives may create additional markets; management offered no revenue targets or adoption milestones.

Competitive and ecosystem positioning remains unproven: management described NextNav as a one-of-one provider, but analyst questioning focused on SpaceX’s motivation and alternative uses of the spectrum rather than confirmed commercial commitments.

Red flags

FCC approval remains the pivotal value driver, yet the NPRM is still in interagency review and management gave no schedule for FCC action or final authorization.

Revenue declined to $1.15 million while operating cash burn reached $28.0 million; the call supplied no quantified path to scale, customer backlog, or break-even.

Management characterized SpaceX’s filing as validation but did not demonstrate that SpaceX is a customer, partner, or prospective spectrum lessee.

The company continues to face opposition and coexistence concerns from licensed and unlicensed users; completed Colorado railroad testing was described as positive but results were not quantified.

The MetCom investment still depends on Japanese government agreement regarding spectrum positioning, and management was unable to answer the analyst’s question about warrant conversion on the call.

The $31.7 million derivative and warrant-liability loss was noncash, but the company remains exposed to substantial earnings volatility from share-price movements and has issued meaningful dilution to fund the balance sheet.
